The AquaCritox® H is a hydrothermal oxidation process specifically aimed at treating predominantly sulphidic spent caustic waste streams with low flow rates. Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) is used as the oxidant and the process operates at pressures of 4 barg and temperatures up to 140°C.
Parameter | AquaCritox H |
Feed flow rate (Design) | Up to 2 m3/hr |
Feed COD | Up to 30,000 mg/L |
Effluent sulphide | < 1 ppm |
Effluent thiosulphate | < 100 ppm |
COD Destruction | 99% destruction |
The treated effluent from the AquaCritox® SCH will see >99% of the spent caustic feed COD destroyed. This is thanks to the operation at elevated temperatures, combined with the high oxidising potential of H2O2 (1.44 times higher than Oxygen).
Tailored solutions can be offered for waste streams with flow rates < 2.0 m³/h. The main OPEX consideration for this process is the cost of H2O2 consumed and this is related to the chemical oxygen demand of the waste stream. Low pressure and temperature operation allows for simple process equipment with very limited maintenance requirement.
